Chandelier and Crystal Lighting Advice

How do I clean my chandelier?

  1. It’s recommended that high quality chandeliers are given a clean once every 2 years.
  2. For the best results use warm water and vinegar with a kitchen chemmy, wipe over and let the vinegar evaporate the water and leave your chandelier sparkling without any streaks
  3. Note that the higher the quality of crystal on your crystal chandelier the less maintenance you will require, for example a swarovski crystal that is cut to perfection will last up to 3 years before needing a wipe over.

Things to consider when purchasing a chandelier

  • Measure the height of your ceiling, the taller the ceiling the larger the chandelier will be required to fill this space
  • The size of your chandelier will also affect how big a room you are trying to illuminate, the larger the area the larger the chandelier required
  • Chandeliers should compliment the room not overpower the furniture in it.
  • Choose a chandelier that compliments the rooms existing decoration scheme, such as colour, modern or traditional.
  • Be creative, don’t restrict suspending chandeliers to dining room tables, they look fantastic in stairwells, bedrooms and even bathrooms.
  • Ensure that all chandeliers are installed by a licensed electrician.

Tips for hanging a chandelier

  1. If you are hanging a chandelier over a dining table ensure that it is placed directly in the middle of the table
  2. For a dramatic look, hang the chandelier around 75cm – 85cm above the dining table, this is based on a standard 2.4m high ceiling.
  3. To set the mood install a wall dimmer, this will allow you to alter the intensity of the light produced in the room and also save energy.
